Giving Hope To The Abdullas

Lives Impacted:

Helping the Abdullahs, an elderly couple recover their business.

In August 2018, as the pristine state of Kerala was gearing up to celebrate Onam, it was hit by the worst flood in nearly a century. It is known to have claimed over 483 lives and many went missing. Aster Volunteers and the disaster relief wing of Aster DM Foundation have spent countless hours working on rescue and relief operations to help rebuild Kerala.

One such story is that of an elderly couple whose livelihood was disrupted by the floods.

Mr. and Mrs. C K Abdulla have no children of their own. Mr. Abdulla, a heart patient who also suffers from epilepsy faced great difficulty finding a job due to his deteriorating health. They made a living by selling chicken eggs to grocers, restaurants and street food carts.

All 300 of their egg-laying hens were swept away by the floods, leaving the Abdullas without any means of making a livelihood. Aster Volunteers brought this situation to the attention of Aster DM Foundation and together they purchased 100 egg-laying hens for Mr. and Mrs. Abdulla.

We're happy to report that their small business is slowly but surely growing.
